Quick Thoughts: This book reads like an episode of Cheaters.
What do you get if you combine underage drinking, random acts of vandalism, running for HOURS, (future) step brother/sister love, OTT high school clichés, and someone cheating on someone in pretty much EVERY chapter? Fallen Crest High!!!! Now with that being said, that doesn’t make this book any less entertaining. I found some parts down-right hilarious, but in other parts I merely stared at my Kindle and forced myself to swallow down my frustrations.
This story is about a girl named Samantha, a.k.a. Sam, and her adventures in trying to run her feelings away. Her parents are getting a divorce? She runs for hours. Her mom moves them into another man’s house? She runs some more. She finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her with her best friend, and that her other BFF knew about it for YEARS and said nothing about it? She runs for more hours. She is starting to get feelings for one of her future step brothers and don’t know how to deal with it? Well… you get the picture. This girl runs WAY too damn much. She made me feel like a slob, laying back eating a piece of pretty spectacular pineapple upside-down cake and drinking tea, while she is running more than Forrest Gump in the second half of his movie.
As she is dealing (or better yet NOT dealing) with the many issues she is facing, she gains the respect of her future step brothers Logan and Mason, due to her ability to “not give a fuck”. It’s like what she is known for at her school and they admire how she is one of the few people they know that isn’t trying to scheme, cheat, or manipulate anyone. They go to the local public school, and are legends on the the football field, their popularity even making its way to Sam’s school, Fallen Crest Academy. Everyone idolizes them, and girls flock to them and drop their panties, some of them having boyfriends but throwing that away for a hour in their beds. I think Sam says it the best when she says:
“A disloyal bitch is the same as any other disloyal bitch.”
This book was full of drama. And cheating. And running. While the main characters was Sam and Mason, Logan really shined for me. I like how he gave ZERO fucks and just said whatever was on his mind. Especially around the end. Pure gold.
Logan puffed up his chest before he downed the rest of his beer. “You don’t know what it’s like to be a Kade. Sam does. She’s conquered and proved her loyalty runs deep.” He flinched. “Real deep if I’m guessing at how far Mason goes in her—”
“Logan shut the hell up!” Mason smacked him in the back of the head.
So while there were parts that had me rolling my eyes in annoyance there where other parts that did make up for it. I may try the next book soon when I am in the need for some more drama in my life.
