Let me start of this review employing a series of gifs that would better explain how I felt after reading this book:

Yup. That about sums up the collective emotions I have on this book.

Monster in His Eyes is about a college student named Karissa. She finds herself taking a philosophy class with her close friend and dorm-mate. What they thought would be an easy grade, was far from that due to their teacher Mr. Santini’s harsh grading scale. It seems nothing Karissa turns in gets her above a C, with is a BIG problem because she is at the school on an academic scholarship that she will lose if she gets anything below an 89 for the class.

It was right after one of these classes, Karissa meets Ignazio “Naz” Vitale. She went back to the classroom to get her phone she left, overheard a heated conversation between Mr. Santini and Naz, and talked to him for the first time. They exchange a few words and part ways, leaving Karissa to drool after a much older man.

They meet again outside of a club, where she very quickly passes out on the street. She had been drugged from a drink, and Naz takes her back to his place to sleep it off. After she wakes up, he drives her back to the dorms, where he puts his number in her phone, that she finds when she is bored during spring break. She calls him, and then the story truly begins.

Naz isn’t a good guy. He is far from it and he doesn’t hide that fact from Karissa. She knows there is darkness in him, and that he is associated with some unsavory people, but she continues to have a relationship with him. He even warns her himself.

“I’m warning you. I’m not a good man, Karissa, and I never will be. So don’t think you can fix me, or that I’ll ever change, because I won’t. I can’t. You have to know, if this goes any further, if you ask me to stay, I’m not going to be able to let you walk away.”

He may be a “bad” man, but he has moments in the book where he showed that he truly cared for her. That he was capable of being more than the monster most people saw him as.

He stares down at me for a moment before leaning over to kiss my lips, tugging me back so far it’s almost painful so he can reach my mouth.

“I love you, too. Promise you’ll remember that.”

“I promise.”

“Good.” he says. “Because I’m about to fuck you like I don’t.”

“The sky isn’t the limit in my world, Karissa. There is no limit. You want it? You got it. Whatever it is.”

She falls in love with him, and he falls in love with her. Secrets are revealed and then an EPIC cliffhanger ends this dark tale making me stare at the last page in wide-eyed shock.

I enjoyed every page. This author was new to me, but after this book I can call myself a fan! She got me hooked on this twisted tale, and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out!
